If you’re planning a trip to Hong Kong, Victoria Peak is an absolute must. It’s the highest point on Hong Kong Island and offers 360-degree views of the city.
You’ll also find a beautiful public park called Victoria Peak Garden, which used to be the summer residence of the governor of Hong Kong. Here you can take a walk among flowers and butterflies, or eat at a range of alfresco restaurants.
1. Hike to the top of Mount Feathertop via The Razorback
Mount Feathertop is one of the most picturesque peaks in Victoria. It's linked to the nearby Mount Hotham ski resort by The Razorback, a high narrow ridge, but surrounded by steep slopes which continue right to the summit.
This trail is not for the faint of heart, but if you're ready to take on the challenge then it will be an unforgettable experience. It's a full day walk that will challenge your fitness, endurance and stamina.
The hike starts at Diamantina Hut and covers 11 kilometres (6.6 mi) from the track head to the summit. It's a great summer hike and also a popular ski tour in winter.
The hike is a little more challenging in the winter and snow can make river crossings difficult. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for sudden changes in the weather as well as low visibility and cold temperatures.
2. Climb to the summit of Mount Bogong
The climb to the summit of Mount Bogong is an unforgettable experience. It is one of the highest mountains in the Victorian Alps and offers incredible views across the mountain range.
Mt Bogong is a must-see for hikers and adventurers alike, whether you’re looking for challenging high country treks, cool secret spots or historic huts. With a number of different options, including the Staircase Spur, Eskdale Spur and Granite Flat Spur, it’s easy to find your perfect route up to the top.
As the highest peak in Victoria, the summit of Mt Bogong is also a significant place for local indigenous people. They use the mountain to collect Bogong moths and as a meeting place for tribes from all over Australia.
3. Trek the Falls to Hotham Alpine Crossing
Thrilling, inspiring and unforgettable, this three-day hike across the high country is one of Victoria’s iconic walks. Walk alongside alpine ridges, through Snow Gum woodland and camp at two historic huts.
A spectacular part of the Alpine National Park, this 37km trail links the resort villages of Falls Creek and Mt Hotham. Explore alpine ridges, swathes of summertime wildflowers and mountain peaks from 2000m above sea level on this challenging but achievable three-day adventure.
The alpine region of south-eastern Australia is a very special place, protecting a vast range of specialised plants and animals, many of which are highly vulnerable to climate change and other threats. It is also one of only a few regions in Australia that have been listed as National Heritage.
4. Climb Mt Buffalo
One of the country’s oldest national parks, Mount Buffalo is a must-see alpine retreat. Sheer cliffs, granite tors, waterfalls, stunted Snow Gum forests and stunning views make it an all-adventure playground.
There’s something for all seasons on this dramatic 'island in the sky', home to plants that are found nowhere else on Earth. Get close to nature on a range of bushwalks, toboggan in Cresta Valley or camp by the banks of Lake Catani – you won’t be disappointed!
The climb up Mt Buffalo is an unforgettable experience and is a great way to see some of the most impressive scenery in Victoria. We’ve teamed up with Regional Roads Victoria to install local signage along the climb that tells you the gradient and remaining distance over the entire route.
