Hawa Mahal

Hawa Mahal or the Palace of Winds is one of the most recognizable monuments in Jaipur. It was built in 1799 using pink sandstone by the then ruler Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh.

It features 953 small windows, called jharokhas, that create a honeycomb-like shape. They were originally designed to give royal ladies a view of daily life and events happening below without being seen by the public.

They also sent a cooling breeze through the interiors, making summers in Rajasthan a little more bearable. Today, it's an architectural gem with an interesting small museum inside.

Nahargarh Fort

Located on the lofty Aravalli Hills, Nahargarh Fort is a must-visit tourist destination in Jaipur. Commissioned by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1734, it served as a retreat palace for the royal family.

The opulent structure of the fort has an effervescent charm that captures the senses of every wanderlust. Though largely neglected for years, it has recently seen a resurgence in popularity among local and foreign tourists alike.

The fort has a number of interesting features, including a lavish organic garden. It is also home to a wildlife sanctuary, known as the Nahargarh Biological Park. It is home to Bengal tigers, Himalayan black bears, Asiatic lions and Indian leopards.

The 200-year old sandstone palace is known for its unique design and construction. It is a five-storey building out of which four floors stay under the water and only the top floor remains above it.
