The main Komodo islands, including Komodo Island itself, are all accessible by boat. There are slow boats, speedboats and liveaboards that allow visitors to enjoy a range of different activities and experiences.
Bali
A tropical paradise with a distinct culture, Bali offers travelers everything they want to see and do. From black sand beaches to surfing, temples to wildlife, there’s something for everyone in Bali.
Bali’s Hindu roots are most evident in its many temples and shrines. You’ll also find a number of religious festivals and ceremonies throughout the year.
One of the best things to do in Bali is to try and learn more about the local religion by attending a temple tour. This will not only show you the temple but will also give you an opportunity to meet and talk with the local people.
You’ll notice colorful palm leaf baskets called Canang Sari scattered across the pavements, which are used to offer food, flowers and offerings to the gods. You can find these baskets in many places across the island, so make sure you take a look when you’re exploring.
Another highlight of visiting Bali is seeing the Kecak Fire Dance, which can be seen in Uluwatu and Ubud Town. The dance is based on the Ramayana epic and is an incredible performance to witness.
Lake Toba
Lake Toba is a magical natural wonder, carved out of the caldera of a super volcano on Sumatra. The largest in Southeast Asia, it is a must-visit destination that will inspire and enthrall nature lovers and adventurers alike.
It’s also a great place to soak in natural hot springs and relax by the lake. There are plenty of secluded beaches, rice paddies and quaint Batak villages around the area.
Samosir Island is a highlight of any visit to Lake Toba and its distinctive wooden houses with soaring curved roofs, known as rumah bolon, are a must-see. It’s also home to the stunning 120-meter Sipiso Piso waterfall, said to be one of the tallest in Indonesia.
The best time to visit is during the dry season, which runs from May to September. There’s little rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it an ideal time to hike, bike or swim.
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah
Taman Mini Indonesia Indah is a cultural park that showcases Indonesia’s culture and traditions. Located in East Jakarta, it has an area of 250 acres and is a good place to learn about Indonesia’s diverse history and cultures.
- It features 26 exclusive replicas of traditional houses of chieftains from all over the country, including Aceh, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Java and Papua. The pavilions are filled with displays of art, dance and history.
- In addition to the numerous pavilions, shows and the Archipelago Lake, there are also several museums inside the park. Among them are the Museum of Indonesia, Bird Park and the Keong Mas Imax Theater.
- The park has a variety of transport options, including shuttle buses, fast train and an aeromovel fast train. It’s a great idea to book a guided tour of the park.
