Taipei
Taipei, Taiwan’s capital, is home to a vibrant mix of traditional Chinese culture and eye-popping modernity. Explore the streets and you’ll be surrounded by classic temples, religious processions, herbal medicines and night markets.
Visit the world class National Palace Museum to learn more about China’s rich cultural heritage. Take a stroll around the Shek Memorial Hall to remember the nation’s revered leader, Chiang Kai-Shek.
Then, head to Taipei 101 for an incredible view of the city. It’s one of the most impressive green skyscrapers in the world.
You can also visit Songshan Cultural and Creative Park to learn more about Taiwan's tobacco culture and modern arts. This area used to be a tobacco factory constructed under Japan's rule, and now it is a center of diverse exhibitions and activities. Try some unique Taiwanese food and drink in the nearby restaurants.
Kaohsiung
If you’re looking for an inexpensive vacation, surrounded by gorgeous beaches and mountains with a friendliest people, then Taiwan is your best bet. It’s easy to get around, there’s no language barrier, and there are a variety of great things to see and do.
Kaohsiung is the second largest city in Taiwan and is home to a number of things to see and do. Take in the Holy Rosary Cathedral, cycle along the Love River, explore Pier-2 Art Center and check out the Gushan Daitian Temple.
It’s also worth visiting Fo Guang Shan Monastery and the Chimei Museum. They have a wide range of exhibits and are well-worth spending at least half a day exploring them.
Nantou
Nantou, Taiwan is a beautiful and charming region that attracts tourists from all over the world. With a mix of mountains, forests, lakes, and aboriginal villages, it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Taiwan.
- Nantou County, a landlocked county in north central Taiwan, is home to the island’s highest mountain, Yushan (also known as Jade Mountain). It also houses the country’s largest lake, Sun Moon Lake.
- Nature lovers will find plenty of activities to keep them entertained in Nantou, including trekking and hiking. The county is also famous for its waterfalls, hot springs, and folk arts and crafts.
- For a spiritual experience in Nantou, head to Longshan Temple. It combines Buddhist, Taoist, and Confucian art and architecture to create a unique temple.
Keelung
Keelung is Taiwan's main amphibious port, and if you're looking to visit somewhere with a bit of a seaside feel, this city is worth checking out. You'll find a lot of the typical things you'd expect from a maritime town -- fish markets, islands, and even one of the largest Mazu temples in the country.
The YM Oceanic Culture and Art Museum () is a great place to learn about Keelung's maritime history, with two floors of interactive modern exhibits. Zhongzheng Park is a great spot to relax and enjoy some stunning views of Keelung Port, too.
For a truly unique experience, check out Fire and Water Cave (), which creates a natural flame by outflowing methane gas and hot spring water! It's a fascinating attraction to check out, and is a must-see for visitors to Keelung.
