Hersonissos is famous for its beaches, nightlife and attractions that are a magnet for fun-loving, young tourists. But it also has some other gems to offer.
For example, if you’re interested in learning about Crete’s folk traditions, the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum should be on your list. Here you can see traditional Cretan farmers’ houses, a distillery, windmill, church, wine and olive presses and more.

The beach is well organized and includes sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, snack bars, changing rooms and a full range of water sports. You can also rent a boat or go scuba diving here.
During the day you can enjoy a quiet time, but at night there are many bars and clubs to choose from. If you want to stay in the area, there are several hotels.

Aquaworld Aquarium
Located in the western part of Hersonissos, Aquaworld Aquarium & Reptile Rescue Center is a must-see for both tourists and locals alike. Founded in 1995 by Scotsman John McLaren, the aquarium is an unusually large natural history museum that houses both marine life and reptiles from all corners of the globe.
The attraction features 15 massive tanks, including the largest - and smallest - aquarium in the world. The aquarium also has a reptile rescue centre, where many of the animals on display are rescued. In addition, the aquarium is a surprisingly fun place to visit. Visitors can handle snakes, snap a selfie and learn about wildlife conservation. The aquarium is one of two in Crete to be ranked by TripAdvisor as the best in Europe in its Travelers' Choice 2015 awards for zoos and aquariums.
Labyrinth Theme Park
Located in Hersonissos, the Labyrinth Theme Park is a great place to spend a day with your family. The park has many interactive activities that are fun and educational at the same time.
The park is also home to the famous labyrinth inspired by Minoan culture of Crete and designed by world-renowned maze designer Adrian Fisher. It has 1300 square meters of twists, turns and dead ends that challenge the imagination and sense of direction.
Hersonissos is a lively seaside resort with plenty to do and see. It's a popular destination for families with children, especially during summer.
Museum of Crete
The Museum of Crete is a great place to learn about the history of the island. Here you can find permanent collections devoted to Cretan history and art as well as temporary collections focusing on historical events and key local figures.
The Heraklion Archaeological Museum houses an impressive collection of Minoan art and other periods of Cretan history, including a number of masterpieces. It is one of the most important museums in Europe and a must-visit for tourists.
Another fascinating museum in Hersonissos is the Lychnostatis Open Air Museum. It was founded in 1992 with a private collection by Yiorgos Markakis. It offers a glimpse into folk tradition and ethnology, with exhibits like a traditional Cretan village house, wine and olive presses, a church, a windmill, and a raki distillery to name a few.
