A trip to Jordan isn’t complete without a visit to the breathtaking lost city of Petra. But the country also has much more to offer.
For those who are into culture, the capital of Amman is one of the most attractive cities in Jordan. It’s a city where the past and present come together seamlessly.
Ma’in Hot Springs
Ma’in Hot Springs is a glorious resort and spa surrounded by cascading waterfalls, set on a hillside overlooking the Dead Sea. Lying just 30km from Madaba, this resort is a great place to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of Jordan.
The spa at Ma’in is a fantastic place to unwind and relax with a massage or facial. These treatments are infused with naturally mineral-rich waters and will help to rejuvenate your body.
It’s also a wonderful retreat for solo travelers looking to spend some time alone and relax in the middle of nowhere. It’s a beautiful setting and the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Ma’in Hot Springs is not a very large hotel and it does not have the 5-star standards that other hotels in Jordan have. However, it is worth a stay and you will have an exceptional experience in the hot springs.
Wadi Rum
Wadi Rum is a massive desert valley in southern Jordan surrounded by sandstone mountains and granite rock. It’s a natural wonderland and home to a wealth of archaeological sites and petroglyphs.
If you’re an adventure lover, there are plenty of activities to choose from in Wadi Rum, including camel rides, rock climbing, sandboarding and ATV tours. In addition to these, there are also plenty of sites worth exploring, such as Burrah Canyon, Lawrence’s Spring and Khazali Canyon.
A jeep safari is the best way to explore Wadi Rum in a short amount of time and can get you to many of these sites. Common stops on a few hour tour include Burdah Bridge, Lawrence’s Spring, Al-Hasany Dunes, Nabatean Temple and Khazali Canyon.
Another great way to experience the desert is camping in a Bedouin tent under the stars. This is a truly unique way to enjoy the peace and silence of the Wadi Rum desert.
Feynan Eco-Lodge
Located in the secluded Dana Biosphere Reserve, this award-winning eco-friendly lodge is miles from the road for rugged walking, fascinating cultural encounters and epic stargazing. Designed by Jordan’s Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) in partnership with EcoHotels, Feynan is the most developed eco-experience in the country.
The 26 rooms are reminiscent of ancient caravanserai or inns along the silk routes, with internal courtyards surrounded by ambient lighting from candles tucked in alcoves. Rooms also have solar-heated showers in private en-suite bathrooms.
Unlike other eco-friendly hotels, Feynan is not connected to the electricity grid but generates its own power through solar panels. Only essential electrical appliances and lighting are used, with daily electricity use capped at 16-18 kWhr.
Dead Sea
If you’re planning a trip to Jordan, the Dead Sea is definitely one of the best places to visit. Not only is the lake the lowest point on earth, but its saline waters are known for their restorative benefits and healing powers.
- However, it’s important to note that the salty water isn’t suitable for swimming due to its high density. It also has a stinging effect, so be sure to rinse off with fresh water before heading in.
- In addition to the Dead Sea, you can also go to the Ma’in Hot Springs for a relaxing dip. The springs cascade down a rock formation and are considered one of the most mineral-rich desert oases in the world.
- Another popular tourist attraction in the area is Lot’s Cave. The ancient site is home to a Pillar of Salt and has many other architectural wonders. It’s a great place to relax and rejuvenate after a long journey.
