If you're visiting Podgorica, you'll want to get out and see some of the city's best sights. Fortunately, most of the major attractions are just a few miles out of town.

One of the city's most notable landmarks is a massive Serbian Orthodox cathedral, which was constructed over the course of 20 years. It's a sight to behold, with its elaborate architecture and eclectic interiors.

1. Vodopad Nijagara

A hidden gem just a few km south of Podgorica is Vodopad Nijagara. It's a public meeting space with lots of restaurants and bars that makes a great spot to escape the heat on a hot day.

This waterfall, commonly known as Montenegrin Niagara, is one of the most beautiful in the country. You can easily access it by car and park for free, as well as take a walk down to the waterfall.

It's an extremely impressive piece of art - so much so that it has been awarded the coveted Wild Beauty award. You can also take a boat ride on the river to see it in action. It's definitely worth a visit if you're staying in Podgorica for more than a few days!

2. Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ

Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro and has many beautiful sights to see. The new cathedral Hristovog Vaskrsenja (Serbian: Saborni Khram Khristovog Vaskrsenja) is one of the most impressive buildings in Podgorica.

The cathedral has a wonderful interior with beautiful murals on the walls and roof. It is also home to the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.

There is a museum nearby, which tells the story of the Great Patriotic War from its beginning to its victory. It is worth visiting, especially if you want to learn more about the history of Montenegro.

Another place to visit is the Moraca Monastery. This monastery is one of the few surviving monasteries in Montenegro that was built according to the Raska architectural school.

Millennium Bridge, also known as Most Millenium, was constructed over the Moraca River and connects old and new parts of the city. It is a cable-stayed bridge with one main 57-meter high pylon, 12 cables and 24 counterweights.

It opened in 2005 and is one of the city’s most popular landmarks. It connects the Boulevard of Ivan Chernojevic in the Old Town with July 13 street in the New Town and serves as a relief to the other congested bridges that link the city center with densely populated areas over the Moraca River.

4. Duklja Ruins

If you’re looking for a unique experience in Podgorica, make sure to check out the ruins of ancient Duklja. It was a settlement of the Illyrian tribe and was later taken over by the Romans.

It’s a small site, but there are some nice Roman columns and stones with Roman writing. It would be nice if it was taken care of better, considering its historical importance.

This is a great spot to walk around and think about what life was like back then. It’s a bit isolated, but it’s worth the trip out.
