As a winter vacation destination, Davos is known for its skiing. The area has five mountain resorts: Parsenn, Jakobshorn, Rinerhorn, Pischa and Madrisa.
In the summer, Davos is also a great place to explore nature and the Swiss Alps. This is especially true if you’re an outdoor lover.
1. Davos Museum
The Davos Museum offers a unique opportunity to experience the works of the German expressionist artist Ernst Ludwig Kirchner in the very place where they were created. He stayed in the town from 1918 to 1938 and was inspired by the surrounding scenery.
The world’s largest collection of works by the artist is housed here. It includes a comprehensive collection of work from all of Kirchner’s creative periods and temporary exhibitions that highlight particular aspects of his and other major artists’ work, as well as currents in contemporary art.
The museum is housed in a highly regarded building by Zurich architects Annette Gigon and Mike Guyer. With its plain and logical design, it is considered one of the best examples of the new architecture of the late 20th century.
2. Davos Lake
There are many things to see and to do in Davos, ranging from the mountain peaks that surround it all, to a world-famous theme park, to outdoor activities such as cycling and ice skating. Whether you are looking for a relaxing break or a wild adventure, there is something for everyone in Davos.
One of the most iconic features of Davos is its Lake, which is a beautiful place to relax all year round. This pristine lake is popular with water sports enthusiasts and also offers independent eateries along its shores.
The Lake is also home to an ice rink, which has been used since the 1860s. Today, the rink is surrounded by an outdoor skating centre which has an extensive range of interconnected ramps and ice rinks.
3. Madrisa Land
If you want to have a fun and exciting time, there's no better place than Madrisa Land, the largest adventure park in Switzerland. It is located at 1,900 metres on Sonnenberg Mountain above Klosters and offers fun for children and families in both summer and winter.
In the creatively designed world of legends a variety of attractions await you. Children can rush down the 100-metre long slide, fly like an eagle from the saga tower or ride ponies – their every wish comes true!
Moreover, the large adventure park on Madrisa is also accessible to physically and visually impaired visitors. This is the first such adventure park in the Swiss Alps, making it a must-see!
