Chateau de Chillon
Chillon Castle is one of Switzerland’s most popular historic sites. Visitors come to learn about its history – it was a defensive outpost, a summer home for the dukes of Savoy and a state prison.
It is also the inspiration for Prince Eric’s shoreside castle in Disney’s “The Little Mermaid”. Whether you plan to have your wedding in Chillon or just want to see this iconic castle, it’s worth the trip.
It’s one of the most visited castles in Switzerland and it’s easy to get to on foot or by train. You can also rent a small boat that will take you across Lake Geneva to reach the castle. It’s one of the most beautiful ways to reach this historic monument!

Place de la Palud
The pretty Place de la Palud is one of the liveliest and most charming places in Lausanne, a lively square presided over by the 17th-century Town Hall. There are plenty of cafes and shops here, as well as the striking Fountain of Justice.
The gothic cathedral here, completed in the 13th century, is one of Switzerland’s finest examples of Gothic architecture. From the tower you can see a wide view of the city, the expanse of Lake Geneva and the mountains beyond.
The pretty Escaliers du Marche lead from the Place de la Palud to the Cathedral, a cobblestone flight of stairs that’s perfect for taking photos. You’ll also pass the Liberty Shop, which is packed with pret-a-porter international fashion.
Escaliers du Marche
Lausanne’s Escaliers du Marche is one of the most picturesque corners in the city. A direct staircase that connects Place de la Palud and the Cathedral, this cobblestone route is also the best way to get a good overview of the city and the lake.
Located in the heart of Old Town, Place de la Palud is a large square that comes alive with activity at night. Its cafés and restaurants make it a popular meeting point for both locals and tourists.
You’ll also find some great museums in Lausanne, including the Palais de Rumine and Collection de l’Art Brut. This latter is dedicated to art that’s outside the mainstream, and features works by mentally ill patients, prisoners and children. It’s well worth a visit.
