If you’re planning a trip to Verona, you simply can’t go wrong with visiting the iconic Arena di Verona. This one-of-a-kind Roman amphitheatre is reminiscent of Rome’s Colosseum and has been a performance venue for centuries.

If you’re a big fan of the opera, you’ll want to make sure you get tickets for this summer’s open-air festival. We’ve got a great option on Get Your Guide that includes an Arena di Verona Opera ticket and a walking tour – you can book it here.

1. Get there early

If you’re in Verona, Italy, you won’t want to miss out on the opportunity to visit the world-famous Arena di Verona. This ancient Roman amphitheater, which was built nearly 50 years before the famous Colosseum in Rome, is a must-see for opera lovers everywhere.

If you plan to see an opera while in Verona, you’ll want to get there early. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll have a seat on the stone steps at the front of the venue.

To save money on admission, you can also buy the Verona City Card which gives you priority entrance to many of the city’s most popular sites. The ticket is under $30 and will help you save time, money, and effort during your stay in Verona!

2. Dress for the occasion

If you’re looking for an incredible opera experience while in Italy, the Verona Arena is the place to be. It’s one of the largest Roman amphitheaters from the first century and is still in use today.

There’s no dress code for the Arena, but it is important to remember that it can get very warm during an opera performance. Therefore, it’s best to wear comfortable clothing that will be breathable.

There’s a tiered stone seating area at the Arena which can be a little uncomfortable in hot weather, so if you plan on sitting in this section, it’s best to bring a light jacket or shawl. You may also want to apply insect repellent before going to the opera if it’s going to be a hot day, and bring a fan if it’s forecast to be a hot night.

3. Take your time

Whether you’re going to see a show or simply admire the architecture, this Roman amphitheater is one of the best things to do in Verona. Located at Piazza Bra in the center of the city, this arena is a stunning architectural masterpiece that can almost compete with the Colosseum.

The Arena can be visited during the day, and opera performances are held here at night. It’s a great place to see classical music performed in an authentic Roman amphitheater, so be sure to add it to your itinerary during your visit!

4. Enjoy the view

Whether you’re visiting Verona Arena for an opera performance or just to see the beautiful architecture, it’s worth making time to climb the steps and take in the view. It’s one of the best things to do in Verona and it’s worth the effort, especially on a beautiful sunny day!

It was originally built outside the city walls by the Romans in 30 AD as a Games venue and attracted spectators from all around the Roman Empire. It is now a museum and it has a fantastic collection of Roman artifacts and architecture.

It’s a gorgeous Roman amphitheater and it can rival the Colosseum in Rome (which was built later than the Arena). You can climb the 360+ steps to get to the top or take an elevator to get there, but either way it’s well worth it!

5. Don’t forget your camera

The Verona Arena is one of the world’s best-preserved ancient structures. It has seen everything from gladiator games to One Direction concerts and has an impressive history that dates back over 2,000 years.

The best way to enjoy a performance in the arena is to bring your camera with you! Whether you are photographing the action or just enjoying the spectacular scenery, it’s important to remember that this place is a treasure worth capturing.

If you are short on time, it is recommended to buy a Skip-the-Line ticket to avoid the long queues. Alternatively, you can opt for a guided tour that offers express entry and a great insight into the history of this amazing Roman monument.
