Black Ghost Statue

The Black Ghost Statue is one of the most recognizable landmarks in this historic Lithuanian port city. This ghoulish monument stands as a tribute to the victims of an untimely demise, and is also an excellent example of how art and architecture can enhance a place by giving people a sense of pride in their home town.

The statue is actually quite large and is crafted from black granite. It is about 17 meters high and was a labor of love for three stone carvers.

The statue has been a tourist hotspot for over 150 years and has earned a reputation as a ghost sighting. The best way to experience this site is by foot. Several tours are offered, but it is highly recommended you book in advance. There have been reports of a variety of apparitions, from a disembodied hand to a pair of legs that run along the edge of the path. The park is open daily from 9am to 10pm.
