Trakai Island Castle
Trakai Island Castle is one of the most famous attractions in Lithuania and a must-visit for anyone who visits this country. It’s a beautiful place to explore and is only 17 miles (28 kilometers) from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.
The castle sits on a picturesque island in the lake Galve. It was originally built during the 14th century by Kstutis and completed by his son Vytautas the Great in 1409.
During the 15th and 16th centuries, it served as the capital of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It was restored several times during the 19th century and after World War I.
Today, Trakai Island Castle houses the Trakai History Museum. It features various exhibitions, conferences and musical festivals.

Trakai History Museum, located in the castle, is one of the most visited museums in Lithuania. Dedicated to the history of the town and its castles, it houses large numizmatychnyya, archaeological, historical and decorative collections.
