Gediminas Tower, a red brick bastion, is the only remaining relic of Vilnius’ Upper Castle fortifications. It was built by Grand Duke Gediminas (c. 1275–1341) to honor his dream of a howling wolf on the top of this hill, which an interpreter said meant a great city would one day stand here.
Today, it serves as a museum that explores the capital’s storied history and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The exhibits range from models of earlier Vilnius castles to archeological finds from the surrounding region.
